I didn't know Ken well in high school but greatly enjoyed following his Facebook posts in recent years - always entertaining and thoughtful. He obviously adored his family. Found his obit to share below:
"Native Texas boy. Love my family, travel, photography, writing, nature, odd facts & trivia, laughing (mostly at myself), and pondering life. So many places; so little time!" -Ken Rasure One Dusty Track
Ken had a long career in the Information Technology field, but it wasn't until retirement that he could explore his true passion, writing, that he was content. In 2010 Ken started his One Dusty Track travel Blog (https://1dustytrack.blogspot.com/), where he wrote about his adventures, great and small, while traveling with family or his brother-in-arms and best friend Chip. He lived for planning the next epic trip- right up until the end. Born in Dallas, graduated from Garland H.S., and received his Bachelors from UT Arlington, Ken's Texas roots run deep. He begrudgingly left his beloved Texas for Arkansas in 2005. Ken worked for Boy Scouts of American National Headquarters, Keane Inc, and Acxiom until his retirement in 2010. A Navy veteran, Ken served on the USS Kitty Hawk Aircraft Carrier during Vietnam becoming lifetime friends with his shipmates Miles Chip Welke, Charlie Simpson, and TK Davis. When he wasn't writing, he enjoyed playing bridge as often as possible. Ken and his family were avid Rvers and belonged to Escapees RV Club and Good Sam Club. Ken was a great father and husband and is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathryn Hiser Rasure, and daughter, Katie Rasure. His son, Chris Rasure, daughter-in-law, Misti Rasure, and grandson Hayden Rasure. His daughter Clare Brent and son-in-law, Rocky Brent. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Dickey Lavon Rasure, mother Gertie Lee Long, and brother, Deryl Frank Rasure. A Celebration of Life will be held in Texas at a later date. Donations in Ken's name can be made to his favorite charities, Make a Wish or St. Jude. Service and arrangements are by Rosewood Funerals and Cremations of Morrilton & Conway 301 E. I'm deeply saddened to read about the passing of my nearly life-long friend, Ken. We met in Jr. High at Bussey, and were friends throughout high school and even after we both were released from our miitary commitments, his in the Navy and mine in the USMC.
Ken and I, along with Walter Walker and Arthur Stone were regular partners in some sort of mischief or another. I've thought about the fun we all had during those years from time to time.
In high school, Ken would regularly invite me over to his house for lunch instead of eating on campus, since he and his Mom lived so close to the campus. It was there i was first exposed to that rare delight known as a peanut butter and banana sandwich! We spent many hours running around in that old Chevy of his!
We enjoyed camping with Ken and his wife of the time several times. We were able to find a couple of out of the way places to park the RV and just enjoy nature! I'll miss those trips and his infectious laugher.
One of the highlights of the GHS reunions was being able to laugh and joke with Ken. I'm not sure whether I'll ever enjoy a reunion as much now.
I'm sorry to hear he had been suffering for so long. He never let on that he was having those problems...very typical of Ken! I'm glad he's resting from his pain and suffering and look forward to the day I see him again restored to health and smiling that Rasure smile!
