From Don Rubarts (Obit courtesy of Williams Funeral Home):

Michael David Turrentine, 68, of Garland passed away peacefully on February 6, 2020. He was born in Nocona, Texas, to Hulen and Erma Turrentine. Mike is survived by his wife, Jeanie; his mother, Erma; his daughter, Cassidy and her husband, Nick; and his brother, Charlie and his wife, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his daughter Nikki and father Hulen.

Mike attended Garland High School with the class of 1969. He attended Texas A&M University in College Station and graduated with a degree in Entomology in 1973. After graduating, he was employed by Bill Clark Pest Control in Beaumont before becoming a pharmaceutical representative for Pfizer where he worked for 31 years.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, especially 0215. He was a past president of Ducks Unlimited, and he loved saltwater fishing. Mike loved animals and had a special way with them. He had many hunting dogs through the years, and they were all very special to him.

Because of his love of the outdoors, after retirement Mike taught himself caning and rush weaving, using cattails he harvested himself. He also did slat weaving with hickory bark using bark he stripped himself.

Mike had a kind heart and a giving spirit. He was always willing to show up and help anyone who needed it. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on February 12, 2020 at Williams Funeral Home at 1600 S. Garland Avenue, Garland, Texas. Reverend Clay Womack will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
